Hosting a Disney Villains, Disney’s Descendants, or Halloween party? Add an easy DIY spell book prop to your tablescape for instant villainous charm.

I adore Disney villains like the Evil Queen and Maleficent. For our party I gave the table an Evil Queen twist with poison apples, magic mirrors, and this spell book prop.
If you plan to feature poison apples, a spell book is the perfect finishing touch.

This project is incredibly simple and inexpensive to make.

How do you make a DIY Spell Book?

1. Print the Sleeping Curse PDF pages. Depending on your book size you may need to resize the printables. I bought a hardcover at a dollar store; my pages measured about 9 x 6 inches, and I trimmed the printables slightly smaller.

2. Age the book pages. Lightly mist the edges and faces of the pages with the spray bottle, then gently fluff and separate pages by fanning them. Let the pages sit until they are slightly damp but not soaking. This softens and warps the paper for a well-used look.
3. Distress the edges. While the pages are still a bit damp, rub brown and/or black ink pads or chalk pads along the page edges to darken and age them. If you don’t have ink pads, carefully run a permanent marker along the edges for a similar effect.

4. Prepare the book to display the pages. Gently crack the spine so the book will stay open. Choose the spread where you want the printable pages to appear.
5. Trim and age the printable pages. Cut out the PDF pages to fit the book. Before attaching them, ink the edges of each printed sheet to match the aged pages in the book.

6. Decoupage the pages in place. Apply a thin layer of glue to the book pages where the printables will go. Align the printable right over the center seam so it looks like a natural page spread. Smooth outward from the seam to remove air bubbles and ensure a flat bond.

7. Seal the pages. Brush a light layer of decoupage glue over the printable, working from the center seam outward and from top to bottom. This secures the paper and creates a slightly finished, worn surface.

8. Dry and finish. Let the glue dry naturally or speed it along with a hair dryer. Once dry, touch up any edges with ink or marker if needed to blend the pages and cover any white paper edges.

Now you have a convincing spell book prop to display on your Descendants or villains-themed table.

The kids loved the movie and the themed table. We also enjoyed the soundtrack—this craft pairs perfectly with other party details like magic mirror cookies or poison apple punch.
