These toffee bars are quick, simple, and irresistibly delicious.

The combination of a buttery toffee crust, melted chocolate, and crunchy pecans creates a bar that disappears fast. They also freeze well, making them ideal for preparing ahead of time.

You will need: butter, brown sugar, an egg yolk, flour, vanilla, Hershey bars, and pecans.

Preheat your oven to 325°F (163°C).

First, cream the butter, egg yolk, and brown sugar together until smooth.

Add the flour and vanilla, then beat until the dough is well combined.

Grease a 9×13-inch pan and press the dough evenly into the pan.

Bake for about 25 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown.

A quick note: the crust may appear slightly soft or “soupy” when it first comes out of the oven. This is normal — it will firm up as it cools.

Remove the crust from the oven and place the Hershey bars directly on top. Let them sit for 3–5 minutes. When the chocolate becomes glossy, it is melted and ready to spread.

Use the back of a spoon to spread the melted chocolate evenly over the crust.

Sprinkle the chopped pecans over the melted chocolate.

Allow the bars to cool completely so the chocolate sets. If you’re short on time, chill them in the refrigerator for about an hour. If you refrigerate them, bring the bars back to room temperature before cutting to prevent the chocolate from separating from the crust.

Cut into squares and serve.

Toffee Bars

Ingredients:

1 cup butter

1 cup packed brown sugar

1 egg yolk

1 cup all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon vanilla

6 Hershey bars

1/2 cup chopped pecans

Directions:

1. Preheat oven to 325°F (163°C).

2. Cream together the butter, brown sugar, and egg yolk until light and smooth. Add the flour and vanilla, mixing until fully combined.

3. Grease a 9×13-inch pan and press the dough evenly into the pan.

4. Bake about 25 minutes, or until the edges turn golden brown. Remove from the oven and place the Hershey bars on top. Let them rest 3–5 minutes until the chocolate is glossy and melted.

5. Spread the melted chocolate evenly over the crust and sprinkle with chopped pecans.

6. Let the bars cool completely until the chocolate hardens. If chilled, return to room temperature before cutting to avoid separation of the chocolate layer.

Extra tip: Stir in or sprinkle crushed toffee bits (found near chocolate chips) for an extra layer of flavor and crunch.
