This Crispy Goat Cheese and Blackberry Salad made a memorable Saturday night dinner.
I’m a big fan of goat cheese. When you bread and fry it, something wonderful happens—the exterior turns crisp while the inside becomes soft and creamy.
A salad for a weekend meal might seem unusual, but this one feels special enough to deserve the spotlight.
Crispy fried goat cheese with a gooey center, salty bacon, and the bright sweetness of blackberries come together for a delightful contrast of flavors and textures.
You really have to try it to appreciate how good it is.
How to Make Crispy Goat Cheese and Blackberry Salad
Begin with an 8-ounce goat cheese log—avoid the crumbled variety for this recipe.

Slice the log into equal pieces and gently press each slice into a patty shape. Place them on a plate and freeze for about an hour—this helps the cheese hold together during frying.

While the cheese chills, make the dressing. Whisk together olive oil, balsamic vinegar, honey, and Dijon mustard until the mixture emulsifies and becomes smooth.

When the cheese is ready, set up a breading station: a bowl with beaten egg and a bowl with about 1/2 cup panko breadcrumbs. Fill a skillet with roughly an inch of vegetable oil and heat over medium until about 350°F.

Dip each chilled goat cheese patty in egg, then press into panko to coat. Fry in small batches—about 2 to 4 pieces depending on pan size—one minute per side until golden brown. Transfer to paper towels to drain excess oil.

Toss a few cups of mixed greens with some of the dressing, then divide the dressed greens among four plates or bowls. Top each portion with fresh blackberries, crumbled cooked bacon, and the warm crispy goat cheese.
Crispy Goat Cheese and Blackberry Salad is gorgeous and absolutely delicious

- 2 Tbsps honey
- 1 Tbsp dijon mustard
- vegetable oil (enough to fill a small saucepan 1 inch deep)
- 1 egg
- 1/2 cup panko bread crumbs
- 6 cups lettuce of choice (I used field greens)
- 1 pint blackberries
- 8 slices cooked and crumbled bacon
Instructions
-
Cut the goat cheese log into 8 equal pieces. If any pieces crumble, press them back together with your hands. Place on a plate and freeze for one hour.
-
Whisk together olive oil, balsamic vinegar, honey, and Dijon mustard. Set the dressing aside.
-
Fill a small skillet with about 1 inch of vegetable oil and heat over medium until it reaches roughly 350°F (about 4–5 minutes).
-
Beat the egg in a bowl and place the panko in another bowl. Remove the goat cheese from the freezer.
-
Dip each piece of goat cheese in the egg, then coat with panko, pressing the crumbs to adhere. Fry gently for 1 minute per side until golden. Drain on paper towels.
-
Toss the lettuce with dressing and divide among four plates. Top each salad with crispy goat cheese, blackberries, and crumbled bacon. Add more dressing if desired. Store any extra dressing in the refrigerator for up to a month.
