Ingredients

For the Cookies

  • 2 ¼ Cups All Purpose Flour
  • 1 Teaspoon Baking Powder
  • 1 Teaspoon Nutmeg
  • ½ Teaspoon Cinnamon
  • 1 ¼ Cup White Sugar
  • ¾ Cup Butter, softened
  • 2 Egg Yolks
  • 1 Teaspoon Vanilla
  • ½ Cup Eggnog

For the Eggnog Buttercream

  • 4 Cups Powdered Sugar
  • ⅓ Cup Eggnog
  • ¼ Cup Butter, softened
  • Nutmeg, for garnish (optional)

Instructions

For the Cookies

  1. In a large bowl, cream the softened butter and sugar together until light and fluffy.
  2. Stir in the egg yolks, eggnog, cinnamon, nutmeg, baking powder and vanilla until combined.
  3. Gradually add the flour a little at a time, mixing until just combined.
  4. Chill the dough for 30–60 minutes to make it easier to handle.
  5. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  6. Drop rounded teaspoons of dough onto greased or lined cookie sheets, spacing them slightly apart.
  7. Bake 15–18 minutes, until the edges are lightly golden.
  8. Remove from the oven and cool completely on a wire rack before frosting.

For the Frosting

  1. In a large bowl, beat the softened butter until light and fluffy. Gradually add powdered sugar, mixing a little at a time.
  2. Add eggnog as needed to reach a spreadable buttercream consistency.
  3. Spread the buttercream on cooled cookies and, if desired, lightly dust with nutmeg for garnish.
