My mom is a legend for her amazing Sloppy Joe recipe. It’s always a crowd-pleaser and one of the easiest meals to throw together.
The secret ingredient is Homemade brand chili sauce. If you can find this specific chili sauce, please use it—other brands don’t give the same flavor. This sauce originated in Utah but is now available in many places. If you can’t find it locally, it’s available online. If you discover it at a store near you, feel free to share where so others can find it too.
Note: In an Instagram demonstration I used 1.3 pounds of ground beef and the entire can of tomato soup to make the mixture saucier. I also tried Kroger’s tomato soup instead of Campbell’s and liked it—no BPA, no corn syrup, and fewer preservatives.

INGREDIENTS:
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1/2 of a white or yellow onion, diced
- 2/3 of a 10¾ oz can of tomato soup (or the whole can for a saucier mix)
- 1 jar Homemade chili sauce
DIRECTIONS:
- In a large skillet, cook the ground beef with the diced onion over medium heat until the beef is browned and the onion is translucent. Drain any excess grease if needed.
- Add the tomato soup and the jar of chili sauce. Stir until the mixture is well combined and evenly coated.
- Reduce heat to low and let the sauce simmer for 2–3 minutes so the flavors meld together.
- Serve the meat mixture on hamburger buns and enjoy.
ENJOY!
