I love going all out for Valentine’s Day — from breakfast through bedtime I spoil my family with themed treats. Heart-shaped pancakes and bacon make a fun start to the day, then a big family dinner and plenty of sweets keep the celebration going. This year we’ll finish the day with a family movie marathon of cheesy, love-filled favorites. To make the evening extra special, I put together this Valentine’s Day Movie Night Snack Board. It was easy to build, fun to customize, and the kids couldn’t resist helping (and sampling) along the way.

Let’s Dish!

I like to use heart-shaped dishes to emphasize the Valentine’s theme. Small bowls and ramekins make it easy to separate different snacks and keep the board looking tidy. Choose a mix of larger bowls for popcorn and smaller ones for candies and chocolates.

  • Heart-shaped ramekins or small heart bowls for candies
  • One or two larger heart bowls for popcorn and bigger treats
  • A rectangular serving tray (around 16″ x 11″) to arrange everything neatly

Pick the Flicks!

Snuggling up with kids for a lineup of sweet, family-friendly films is one of our favorite Valentine’s traditions. With so many streaming options, you can easily assemble a short marathon. Here are a few of our top picks to get you started:

  • Be My Valentine, Charlie Brown
  • Lady & The Tramp
  • The Little Rascals
  • The Princess and The Frog
  • Beauty and the Beast
  • Sleeping Beauty
  • Shrek

How to Build the Valentine’s Movie Night Snack Board

This board is simple, flexible, and easy to adapt to what you have on hand. Follow these basic steps to assemble a visually appealing and kid-friendly snack spread.

  • Start with a 16″ x 11″ serving tray or any platter that suits your group size.
  • Arrange four heart-shaped bowls on the tray — two larger and two smaller work well.
  • Fill the larger heart bowls with popcorn for a salty, crunchy option that complements the sweets.
  • Use one smaller heart bowl for assorted jelly candies and the other for a mix of milk and peanut M&M varieties or other small chocolates.

Once the heart bowls are placed, fill the remaining space on the tray with a variety of Valentine-inspired treats. Mix textures and flavors — chewy, crunchy, fruity, and chocolatey — for a balanced selection that appeals to every palate. Here are ideas to include:

  • Sweet popcorn for a simple, shareable snack
  • Assorted jelly candies and gummy Xs & Os
  • Milk and peanut chocolates, like special holiday M&M mixes
  • Chocolate hearts, mini cookies, and bite-size caramel candies
  • Twists, pretzels, and salted snacks to balance the sweetness
  • Sour candies and conversation hearts for variety
  • Seasonal specialty pieces, such as mint patties or themed Kisses

To keep the board fresh and interesting, use small piles rather than large mounds, and place similar colors together for visual appeal. Add playful touches like napkins, small spoons for scooping, or picks for grabbing sticky treats.

Round out your family movie night with a simple game before or between films. Valentine’s Bingo, Tic Tac Toe, or a quick card game adds to the fun and helps pace the evening. When the board is ready and the movies are cued up, it’s time to serve and enjoy.

Serve and enjoy!
